Candidates residing in the following locations/areas falling within the Geographical Jurisdiction of Southern Railway alone are eligible to apply.
1. Whole State of Tamil Nadu
2. Whole Union Territory of Puducherry
3. Whole State of Kerala
4. Whole Union Territories of Andaman & Nicobar and Lakshadweep Islands
5. ONLY the two districts of Andhra Pradesh, namely, SPSR Nellore and Chittoor.
6. ONLY one district of Karnataka, namely, Dakshina Kannada.

Apprentices will be engaged in the following trades, the slots available in various trades with communal break up in Carriage& Wagon Works, Loco Works, Electrical Workshop, Railway Hospital/Perambur and Chennai Division are tabulated below for the information of candidates.

A) FRESHER Category:

B) Ex-ITI Category

a) CARRIAGE & WAGON WORKS, PERAMBUR - 170 posts

b) ELECTRICAL WORKSHOP/PERAMBUR - 120 posts

c) LOCO WORKS/PERAMBUR - 214 posts

d) ENGINEERING WORKSHOP/ARAKKONAM - 67 posts

e) CHENNAI DIVISION – RS/AJJ - 60 posts

f) CHENNAI DIVISION – RS/AVD - 88 posts

g) CHENNAI DIVISION – 60 posts

h) CHENNAI DIVISION – DSL/TNP - 07 posts

i) CHENNAI DIVISION – C&W/Mech - 40 posts

Apprentices will be engaged in the following trades. The slots available in various trades with communal break-up in GOC workshop, Trichy and Madurai Divisions are tabulated below for the information of candidates.

Minimum Academic/Technical Qualification as per the Apprentices Act 1961:

a) Fresher Category:-

Academic Qualification

Fitter, Painter & Welder

Should have passed 10th Class (with a minimum of 50% aggregate marks) under 10, +2 System of education or its equivalent.

Medical Laboratory Technician (Radiology, Pathology, Cardiology )

Should have passed 12th Class (with a minimum of 50% aggregate marks) under 10, +2 system of education with Physics, Chemistry and Biology.

b) Ex.ITI Category:-

Academic Qualification

Fitter, Machinist, MMV, Turner, Diesel Mechanic, Carpenter, Painter, Welder(G&E), Wireman, Advance Welder & R&AC

Should have passed 10th Class (with a minimum of 50% aggregate marks) under 10 +2 System of education and ITI course in the relevant trade in Government recognized ITI

Electrician

Should have passed 10th Class (with a minimum of 50% aggregate marks)under 10 +2 System of education with Science as one of the subjects or its equivalent and ITI course in the relevant trade in Government recognized ITI

Electronics Mechanic

Should have passed 10th Class (with a minimum of 50% aggregate marks) under 10 +2 System of education with Science (Physics and Chemistry) and Mathematics or its equivalent and ITI course in the relevant trade in Government recognized ITI

PASAA

Should have passed 10th Class (with a minimum of 50% aggregate marks) under 10 +2 System of education & National Trade Certificate issued by National Council for Vocational Training in “Computer Operator and Programming Assistant”

Note:

i) Minimum 50% marks in SSLC not applicable for SC/ST/PwBD Candidates.

ii) Course Completed Act Apprentices, Engineering Graduates and Diploma holders are NOT eligible to apply.

Age Limit: (As on 01.06.2021)

i) The candidates should have completed 15 years of age and should NOT have completed 22/24 years for Freshers/Ex-ITI, MLT respectively. ii) The Upper age is relax able by 3 years for OBC, 5 years for SC/ST candidates and 10 Years for Person with Benchmark Disability (PwBD). a. Candidates who want to avail the benefit of reservation of SC/ST, must produce his/her Caste Certificate issued by appropriate authority at the time of Document Verification. Similarly the candidates who want to avail the benefit of reservation of OBC, must produce Caste Certificate and Non-Creamy Layer certificate issued by appropriate authority at the time of Document Verification.

Selection Procedure:

The selection will be on the basis of Merit List prepared in respect of all the eligible candidates who apply against the Notification. The Merit List will be prepared by the Committee nominated for this purpose by following the procedure mentioned as under:

a) For Freshers:- The average of marks obtained by the candidates in Matriculation/10th Std

b) Ex.ITI :- Marks obtained in Matriculation will be converted to 100 marks ( duly ensuring Minimum 50% marks in aggregate) + ITI marks duly converted to 100. Total marks put together will be calculated for 200 marks and merit list will be drawn based on the converted marks giving equal weight age to both.

c) MLT :- Marks obtained in Higher Secondary (with Physics, Chemistry, Maths & Biology) will be converted for 200 and merit list will be drawn based on the converted marks duly ensuring Minimum 50% in aggregate marks in Matriculation. For candidates possessing Xth through General Education Department, Government of Kerala the grades are classified on nine-point scale. Administration will take midpoint of range of grades obtained by the candidates. After obtaining midpoints of all the attempted subjects according to grades awarded, percentage will be calculated treating each subject is out of 100 marks as there is no standard method or multiplying factor for calculation of average of matriculation for such Boards.

d) For SC/ST and PwBD ( PH quota) candidates the minimum percentage of 50% marks in aggregate in Matriculation is not insisted upon)

e) In case of two candidates having the same marks, the older candidate will be preferred. In case the dates of birth are also same, then the candidate who has passed Matriculation Examination earlier will be considered.

f) Original transfer certificate for completion of qualifying examination (Std. X/XII/ITI) must be produced during document verification.
